Burglar Alarms Improve Security in Homes
How effective are burglar alarms?
Bristol suffers over 7000 burglaries each year. Protect your home by reviewing your current security measures.
- Home Office reports show that 84% of thieves are put off by alarms and 82% would be deterred by CCTV equipment
- Alarm installation on some estates in Safe and Secure Homes Schemes have reduced burglaries by 80% and lead to an increase in reported feelings of safety by residents (as reported by the BBC)

How to protect your home
Go outside and look at your property carefully. How would you break in? Are there accessible windows, unlockable windows or an open shed full of useful ladders to get to upstairs windows?  Do you have a noisy gravel drive or pathway which would alert neighbours to the presence of an intruder? How visible is the exterior burglar alarm box?  Is there a second alarm box at the back of the property?

Burglar alarms in Bristol help deter thieves
For every house with an burglar alarm, there are at least nine without. Reformed burglars who work with police in Bristol report that they would walk past the houses with burglar alarms and target the ones without.
So get an alarm as a warning device quickly and prevent break-ins to your home!

Types of Burglar alarms
There are three types of intruder alarms: Do-it-yourself alarms, audible only alarms and ARC monitored alarms.
- DIY alarms are not recommended and do not usually result in a police response as they are often unreliable and cause too many false alarms.
- To receive a police response from an audible only alarm, there needs to be confirmation that a robbery is actually taking place, usually from an eye witness.
- Monitored alarms are particularly useful for isolated properties and for the elderly or infirm when combined with panic buttons. They are usually monitored via an ARC which filters out false alarms and then informs the police. Police respond to monitored alarms automatically.

Effective Intruder Alarms
Getting the correct burglar alarm depends on finding one that suits each house and the people within it. Some specialist Bristol alarm installation companies offer a free security survey and will help you identify the right alarm system for your home. This individualised survey will pinpoint exactly what you and your home need to provide an effective deterrent to robbers and protection.  They can design, install and maintain your burglar alarm system so that it continues to provide the protection you need to help you and your family feel safe in your home.
